Star Tours
Welcome to the Star Tours Astroport!
Check you’ve got all the necessary documentation, then step onboard your non-stop Starspeeder service to the moon of Endor. R.E.X. is your pilot, and he’s new to the job. Infact, this is his first flight, and he’s having a few problems with the controls!
A wrong turn in the launch bay signals the start of a turbulent flight through the more hazardous regions of the Star Wars universe, culminating with a dramatic swoop across the Death Star itself!

Trivia
- Star Tours was a joint production between Walt Disney Imagineering and George Lucas’ special effects operation Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). After agreeing to the project, Walt Disney Imagineering purchased military flight simulators to help create the effects and movement. The final StarSpeeders are therefore very similar in design and power to these immense industrial machines.
- The Astroport workers seen during the flight and in the pre-show video are all ILM modelshop workers. However, contrary to popular belief, the worker seen ducking in shock as your StarSpeeder returns to the Astroport is infact not George Lucas but Ira Keeler, an ILM modelmaker who just happened to be in the right place at the right time!
- Look closely at REX’s bodywork and you’ll see a red tag featuring the words “Remove Before Flight” – could this explain his poor flight skills?
- One of the Ewoks featured in the pre-flight video is holding a Mickey Mouse plush. The guests surrounding them are all Imagineers and their families.
The original Star Tours in California, opened 1987, cost almost twice as much as the whole park did upon opening in 1955!
