Grand
Opening Ceremony

10:00, 8th April 2006

The big day finally arrived – the grand opening of Disneyland
Park’s first brand new attraction in seven years!  As the
park opening announcement played and guests made their way up
Main Street, an extra sliver of guests veered right, heading
straight for Discoveryland.  All evidence of Friday’s
press preview night had been cleared away, except for a
repositioned green carpet, the giant entrance doors and the
Pixar area loop which played through temporary speakers in
front of the attraction.

Surprisingly, many guests walked right past the crowd in front
of Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, heading instead towards Space
Mountain: Mission 2 and Star Tours.  As 10am neared,
however, the crowd was complete and the ceremony began.
A pre-recorded announcement welcomed guests in both French and
English to the grand opening of the new attraction, and
introduced Disneyland Resort Paris Ambassador 2006 Elena
Fumagilli.

Entering the area to a Discovery-style Space Ranger
soundtrack, along the green carpet from the attraction exit,
Elena’s arrival provoked a fantastic response from the
enthusiastic crowd.  She welcomed everybody to the park
and the new interactive attraction and went on to introduce
Resort C.E.O. Karl Holz.

“Bonjour Elena, bonjour tout le monde” began Karl.
“I’d like to welcome everyone here this morning for this
first attraction of three very important attractions to us:
Buzz Lightyear, Toon Studios and Tower of Terror.  But
today, we’re here to enjoy Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast.”

“Before we proceed, I just wanted to say thank you to the Cast
Members here, at Disneyland Paris, for delivering this great
attraction; to Walt Disney Imagineering for delivering a great
attraction.  We’re proud of this, and there’s much more
to come.”

The lucky first family was then introduced and interviewed by
Elena, who asked them if they were ready to help Buzz.
The two children then aimed their laser guns at the target on
the giant door, which opened to reveal Buzz Lightyear, who
stepped through the cloud of smoke and greeted the family.

Finally, it was time for Karl Holz to proclaim: “I now
declare Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast officially OPEN!”

Karl and the first family then entered the attraction through
the Fastpass entrance, leaving Elena to explain the attraction
whilst the Cast Members prepared it for opening.

Captured by Photos Magiques, Karl Holz scored a modest 60,100
points.  At least we can be sure he hasn’t been spending
all of his working day enjoying the new attraction, then!
