Fun Facts

Casey Jr. – Le Petit Train du Cirque
was the first ever roller coaster to feature an on-board music system.
As Casey climbs the initial hill, “I think I can, I think I can..” plays,
before the full “Casey Jr.” song begins with the downward descent.
This successfully tested the concept for Imagineers before they put it to
much greater use with 1995’s
Space Mountain.

Although technically classed as a roller coaster, the ride is infact powered
throughout, unlike traditional coasters which operate through the forces of
gravity.  This allows for a more gentle and controlled family ride, and
is the first and only time Disney has used this ride system.  Like
Space Mountain and

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith
, it was manufactured to the
Imagineers’ specifications by Dutch coaster company
Vekoma.

The concept design of the attraction was completed by Imagineer Jim Shull,
now perhaps better known for his strong involvement in
Cars Race Rally and the
entire Toon Studio project at Walt
Disney Studios Park
.

History

This
attraction and the whole of Storybook Land is based loosely on the area of
the same name at Disneyland in California.  The area features Storybook
Land Canal Boats, a Cast Member-guided motor boat tour past miniature scenes
(opened 1956), and Casey Jr. Circus Train, a traditional railway ride
(opened 1955).  Both attractions were updated for their debut in Paris
in 1994, though the concept of the two interweaving remains thoroughly
intact.

“it’s
a small world”

Casey Jr Circus Train in California
was infact originally conceived as a low-speed roller coaster ride up and
around the hills of Storybook Land, with several dips and climbs.  Due
to technical limitations at the time, however, it was eventually scaled back
to a simple miniature railway.  Almost 40 years later at Disneyland
Park in Paris, the original concept finally became a reality.

The attraction was added in 1994 as part of a rapid expansion programme to
greatly increase the park’s attraction capacity whilst keeping inside a
workable budget.
