Sit back and let your childhood memories
take you for a peaceful cruise through Storybook Land, where the pages of
the most famous storybook tales, from ‘Peter and the Wolf’ to ‘Aladdin’ and
‘Beauty and the Beast’, have been brought to life in a series of intricate
miniature worlds.

Fun Facts

Le Pays de Contes de Fes pays
tribute to some of Disney’s often overlooked fairytale interpretations,
offering a good guessing game to guests as they to name some of the more
obscure scenes such as Return to Oz (The Wizard of Oz), Night on Bald
Mountain (Fantasia) and Peter and the Wolf.  As your boat floats past
each scene, instrumental excerpts from the famous soundtracks echo through
the air.

All 20 canal boats are
chained together and pulled through the canal using underwater turntables at
each corner of the course.  Like many of Disney’s waterways, dye has
been added to hide the underwater winch systems in the surprisingly shallow
canal.

Storybook Land features some
of the park’s most intricate and extravagant landscaping, with miniature
fields, trees, beaches, snow, mountains and castles all mixing together in
harmony.

History

Based on the 1955 Storybook Land Canal Boats at Disneyland in California, Le
Pays des Contes de Fes features several enhancements and tweaks to suit its
new location and times.  Rather than have guests guided by a Cast
Member in the style of The Jungle Cruise, tethered boats guide guests slowly
around the course, with music and images telling the story.  The
miniatures are now far more detailed and the integration with
Casey Jr. – Le Petit Train du
Cirque
above far grander.

The
Paris attraction references more modern or often overlooked Disney tales,
and especially those with a European setting.  Whilst guests in
California enter the mouth of Monstro the Whale, guests in Paris enter the
Cave of Wonders from Aladdin.  The boats themselves are similar in
style, yet expanded to match nearer the dimensions of those from
“it’s a small world”.

The attraction was added in 1994 as
part of a rapid expansion programme to greatly increase the park’s
attraction capacity whilst keeping inside a workable budget.

Many of the scenes and scenery of the attraction were created by a French
company later tasked with scenic work for Toon Studio in Walt Disney Studios
Park.
