Blvd placemaking Whilst the Hollywood Studio project will
eventually encompass the whole of
Production
Courtyard, from Studio Tram Tour right the way around to Rendez-Vous des
Stars restaurant, the first major phase of
work will take place between
Disney Studio 1
and
Studio Tram Tour: Behind the Magic, adding around eight sets and fa�ades
to create a small Hollywood Boulevard area. Designed to compliment
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror,
they will also lead on from where
Disney Studio 1
begins, towards a tunnel in the Hollywood Hills doubling as the entrance for
Studio Tram Tour. Almost all of the set elements, except notibly
the backdrop and tunnel, will be replicas of those found at Disney’s two
existing Hollywood streets. First, Sunset Boulevard and Hollywood
Boulevard at Disney-MGM Studios Florida, opened between 1989 and 1994.
Second, Hollywood Pictures Backlot at Disney’s California Adventure park
(DCA),
opened 2001. Whilst these streets are similar to the traditional Main
Street, with the fa�ades hiding stores and restaurants in standard buildings
behind, the Parisian Hollywood Boulevard will feature only the fa�ades
themselves, giving the effect of a true movie set similar to the current
“Reign of Fire” or “Les Parapluies de Cherbourg” features. The reverse
of the sets will be hidden by trees and vegetation. This is a full guide to everything we know so
far, updated whenever new confirmations or rumours arrive! 
 Pueblo
Deco building A Pueblo Deco/Mediterranean building with arches and
a tiled roof will border the area of La Terrasse and provide an archway
through to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Similar in style to La
Terrasse and Tower of Terror itself, it will have a warm colour scheme and be home to a brand
new tips board (information and wait times board) in one of several inlet arches,
similar to those of “Schmoozies” at Hollywood Pictures
Backlot, DCA.
 
 Pueblo
Deco tower A Pueblo Deco/Mediterranean tower will sit on
the far edge of the Pueblo Deco building forming a corner to this new area
of Hollywood-themed development, similar in style to the Mediterranean
features of Tower of Terror itself.
 Pueblo
Deco tower A second tower, this time adding to the overall view
of the new Hollywood Boulevard.
 Gone
Hollywood storefront The storefront of “Gone Hollywood” boutique at
Hollywood Pictures Backlot will hide the exterior queue line of Art of
Disney Animation. The store features an Art Deco style similar to The
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror itself, and is fairly reminiscent of the
Hollywood & Vine storefront in Disney Studio 1. Along with an animated
neon sign, it features a small Art Deco tower with a blue clock. The
view inside is concealed by windows filled with movie posters and signs
relating to Disney films and Hollywood icons.
 Crossroads
fa�ade 1 A set styled to a corner building ends the boulevard and
creates a “crossroads” at the centre of the development, with a
small path in front leading to the Tower and the larger street behind
forming a key route between Studio Tram Tour and the Tower. From reports, this fa�ade
could be based on the movie theatre section of the “Villains in Vogue”
store on Sunset Boulevard at Disney-MGM Studios Florida.
 Crossroads
fa�ade 2 The other half of the crossroads uses a similar
floor-plan to the current planters and will be located exactly opposite the
above fa�ade to balance the design of the street set. This corner fa�ade is reported to
resemble the classically designed “Off the Page” store from Hollywood
Pictures Backlot, which features extravagant (faux) carvings, large windows
and a small tower covered in ornate details and sandy-coloured carvings.
 Tunnel
entrance At the previous location of the small hub and tree,
a large new backdrop will appear to represent a tunnel through the hills of
Hollywood. This will also serve as the grand entrance to Studio Tram
Tour: Behind the Magic, whilst solving the problem of having to create a
realistic horizon on the backdrop. The presence of Studio Tram Tour
will also be hinted on various other signage around the area. A tunnel is shown on the mural/fresque at the exit
of Disney Studio 1, to which this new creation will be remarkably similar.
It also resembles the famous tunnel in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”.
 Hollywood
Hills backdrop At around the previous location of Studio Tram
Tour’s own billboard entrance sign, a new backdrop will sweep across much
wider, showing the luscious, green Hollywood hills. History Despite Disney
Studio 1 being planned as the park’s traditional “Main Street”, rumours of a
Hollywood-themed street stretching out from Disney Bros. Plaza (the area
featuring the Partners Statue) have circulated ever since Walt Disney
Studios Park first opened on 16th March 2002. Whilst it was generally presumed a Hollywood
Boulevard would only arrive once the park is ready to expand beyond its
current boundaries and the Studio Tram Tour station, 2006 brought rumours of
a new “Hollywood Studio” project to transform Production Courtyard and
expand the popular theme of the under-construction Tower of Terror.
Sets and fa�ades for the “Place des Stars” area of Production Courtyard were
rumoured, but no mention was made of the long-awaited outdoor boulevard. The first weeks of 2007 finally brought
confirmation of the Hollywood Studio project, at the annual Cast Member
Rendez-Vous event. The event spans several days to allow all Cast
Members to be given a preview of upcoming events and attractions, with the
first major surprise being the confirmation of the sets listed above.
No public confirmation or release of concept art has yet been made, but
thanks to reports and rumours from those at the event or “in the know”, we
have been able to piece together this guide to the future boulevard. |
