Catchy Rhythm)
It
doesn’t fit the Princess theme at all, but it’s still a catchy
song as the title suggests, and a very popular one aswell with
both loyal fans and new guests. | During the
parade initial run, from 12th May to 30th September 2003, the
parade had three stops when Dancin’ (A Catchy Rhythm) would be
replaced with a piece of specific instrumental music for each
float. These three musical stops also had impressive
special dance routines for each float’s cast of dancers, and
many fans were disappointed to find these stops missing when
the parade returned on January 5th 2004. | |  | 1. Steamboat
Willie | After the huge
outburst of Disney characters as the parade begins to the music of
“Dancin’ (A Catchy Rhythm)” (originally used for The Wonderful
World of Disney Parade from 1998 onwards), comes Mickey’s
steamboat from his 1928 black and white classic “Steamboat
Willie”. This cartoon was the first to feature synchronised
sound and music, and raised the bar once again for animated
shorts. This float was originally used at the start of “The
Wonderful World of Disney Parade” because in its original form
that parade was supposed to be a “journey through the animated
classics”, so it seemed right to begin way back at Steamboat
Willie. | For this float,
Mickey is joined by Minnie on Steamboat Willie, and they both wear
black and white costumes to fit the theme. You may wonder
how this float now fits into “The Princess Parade”, but the fact
is you can’t have a Disney parade without Mickey and Minnie!
That doesn’t mean they couldn’t have used a more fitting float for
them though, as even during the “Princess Weeks” in Disneyland
Park which kicked off this parade Mickey and Minnie travelled down
the parade route in a royal horse-drawn carriage.
Unfortunately this was cut from the parade when the Princess Weeks
ended on 26th May 2003, and when Mickey and Minnie returned due to
popular demand they were back on their old Steamboat Willie float
which is now a permanent (if slightly unfitting) feature in the
parade. | | 2. Snow White | The royal
procession properly begins here, with the first float featuring
Snow White and her Prince. The float is relatively small and
low key compared to those which follow though, with just some nice
flower baskets, forest animals and a wishing well for decoration.
The reason for this is that the float was originally from the
Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, and used for festive Christmas
Carollers from 2001 onwards. | 3. Sleeping
Beauty | The first of the
more spectacular floats in the parade, this one features Aurora
and Prince Phillip standing on the edge of a rocky cliff with
Maleficent in her dragon incarnation behind them. At random
intervals the dragon begins to move and tries to attack the royal
couple, but luckily Prince Phillip still has his trusty sword to
keep the beast away! | | 4. Cinderella | Next, a fine
collection of horses passes, pulling along the royal carriage of
Cinderella and Prince Charming. Cinderella has come from
being a slave to her two sisters to being a beautiful and popular
princess thanks to the help of the Fairy Godmother, who follows
behind the couple on the back of the float, making dreams come
true for the crowd as she waves her magic wand. | 5. The Little
Mermaid | After the beautiful
pumpkin carriage of Cinderella passes, we are taken “Under the
Sea” as Ariel, “The Little Mermaid” arrives on her beautiful
sea-creature-filled float. As she sits at the top of the
float on huge seashell she flaps her mermaid’s tail in happiness
as the crowd wave at the beautiful princess. Ariel also has
another reason to be happy – the evil villain Ursula is being
crushed by all the shells and sea creatures! And not one to
lose sight of his daughter, the noble king Triton follows behind,
perhaps looking for a suitable new float, with room for a
Prince…? | 6. Beauty and
the Beast | Be Our Guest!
The ever-welcoming characters from “Beauty and the Beast” welcome
us to their beautiful float and present princess Belle and her
proud Prince, the Beast. They’d better get going though, the
Beast’s rose doesn’t seem to have many petals left…! | | 7. Aladdin | The last of the
Princesses is Jasmine with her proud Prince Aladdin. They
sit on their charismatic magic carpet high above the rooftops of
Agrabah, and fly past the moon as the snake-like Jafar follows in
pursuit. At certain points in the parade, the snake breathes
out an explosive blast of flames, just missing Aladdin and
Jasmine. | | 8. Dumbo | To finish the
parade, the circus train Casey Jr. with Dumbo sitting on top
passes along with a gang of funny clowns who like to interact with
the audience a great deal! Although it doesn’t fit in with
the Princess theme of the parade at all, this float and its cast
of clowns is very popular, and this was probably the main reason
to bring it back into the parade at the start of its 2004 season. | Interestingly, the
parade is now only one float change away from being identical to
the 2001/2002 versions of the Wonderful World of Disney Parade.
If they were to replace Snow White with Mary Poppins then the
parade would be exactly the same, apart from a few costume
differences. | |  | 12th May to 30th

1st October 2003 | The Princess Parade
gets taken over by Halloween Evil for the park’s Halloween
Festival, and the Disney Villains take the place of the Princes
and Princesses to form the new “Disney Villain Parade”. The
parade also featured all-new costumes and music (“Halloween-Lo-Ween”),
aswell as Halloween decorations on the floats and some new props
and characters. |
3rd November 2003 | The parade goes
back to its old self for a few days, before Christmas Season
begins. |
8th November 2003 | The parade becomes
“The Christmas Parade”, with more new costumes, music (“Chante,
c’est Noel”) and decorations on the floats. The Princes and
Princesses wear special festive (and warmer) costumes. |
5th January 2004 | The parade goes
back to “The Princess Parade” again, but seems to lose the theme
even more by the day as the old Dumbo Casey Jr. train float is
back at the end of the parade. |
10th July 2004 | The parade is now
performed at the very late time (for a daytime parade) of 19h00,
to allow the same parade cast to perform the Disney Cinema Parade,
The Princess Parade and Fantillusion! They sure have a
packed second half of their day! |
