Area Development

Rue Georges Méliès

Road leading from Production Courtyard/Hollywood Boulevard to the heart of Backlot, named after the French filmmaker (1861 – 1938) who led the way with special effects in early cinema.

Les Parapluies de Cherbourg

Shop façade based on the central location of 1964 French musical ‘Les Parapluies de Cherbourg’ – an umbrella store in the Normandie town of Cherbourg. Rain even falls on cue through the Summer months! This storefront is the actual one used in the production of CinéMagique.

Piazza Sergio Leone

The main square of Backlot, particularly that between Backlot Express and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, named after the Italian film director famed for his epic ‘Spaghetti Westerns’.

Tour de Force Records

The fictional music recording studio at Studio 8, home to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith.

History

Backlot is a land unique to Walt Disney Studios Park and without a ‘cousin’ at any other Disney Park. The closest comparison could be Streets of America at Disney-MGM Studios, an industrial backlot of American street sets.

Backlot was included somewhat in the original Disney-MGM Studios Europe plans as a real production area dedicated to special effects. Once the plans for Disney Studios Paris were launched in 1999, including the current three attractions, these remained true to completion.

Music

Backlot Loop

The music of Backlot is big, bold and action-packed – ranging from the inevitable Armageddon to Disney’s animated Atlantis, with Batman, Blade Runner, Mission to Mars, Top Gun, James Bond 007 and more inbetween.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Loop

The music loop of the queue and exit area of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith is unique in that it features modern, popular music used to create the theme environment of a recording studio. Such modern artists as Coldplay, Oasis, Chemical Brothers and Texas can be heard.

This is Backlot, where the imagination of the talented people behind the camera explodes onto the scene in an epic schedule of thrilling set pieces!

Map

Follow the Rue Georges Méliès towards the pounding beats of rock music and epic action movie soundtracks at the Piazza Sergio Leone and you’ll pass the incredible Armadillo prop, a fascinating introduction to the spectacular special effects of its blockbuster origins, which roar through Studio 7 at Armageddon – Les Effets Speciaux.

If you’d prefer to take a backseat on the action, head for Moteurs… Action! Stunt Show Spectacular and prepare to be blown away by a dazzling showcase of the most fearless car and motorbike stunts ever seen, all choreographed exclusively for the production by famed James Bond stunt designer Rémy Julienne. At Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith, the red carpet has been rolled out for the legendary rock band, who are inviting their fans to test-drive an electrifying new way to experience their sounds, using a breathtaking launch, dazzling light-show and sensational music.

Backlot is also the place where the cameras start rolling for Disney Cinema Parade and the sounds of High School Musical go “On Tour” with an energetic, lightning-paced street musical.

From exhilarating music to jaw-dropping near-misses, Backlot guarantees an explosive mix of action, fun and pure cinematic emotion…
