| 29th March 2005 Safety Warning Video Download with Sound! You can now download the new safety warning video with sound and from a closer viewpoint. The video not only gives you an idea of what is being said on the video, but also a look at the new plasma screens in the rooms which the queue line passes through. Download here, with thanks to dlpstephan on Disney Central Plaza Forums. |

| 29th March 2005 Mission 2 Billboard Want to see one of coolest billboards ever created? Now you can, by clicking here, thanks to Kyoto. The billboard features a huge poster for Space Mountain: Mission 2, but then also a countdown clock and 3D Disneyland Resort Paris logo! It’s good to see that Disneyland Resort Paris can make such a huge event out of “just” an attraction relaunch! |

| 29th March 2005 Station Space Station Idea Cancelled The ride’s unscheduled early previews over the last few days have revealed a few more facts about the new ride. It appears that unfortunately the bumpiness of the old ride has not been completely solved, since this would obviously take a huge amount of money and time, so instead this element has almost been incorporated into the ride as if the bumpiness is due to the train hitting asteroids, etc. The next major piece of news is that the interesting Victorian space station prop for the ride’s station has most definitely been cancelled. The prop can be seen on the concept art, and it was designed to bring an even more Victorian touch to the ride and more excitement to the station. It’s cancellation could be due to many factors, from problems getting it in place to budget or time constraints. As more news from the previews appears, you’ll be first to know! |

| 28th March 2005 Safety Warning Video: Download! The highly anticipated new safety warning video for the attraction queue has just been revealed by Coaster-Rider! The new video thankfully does away with the old style that fitted more with Star Tours or DL/WDW’s Space Mountains rather than our Victorian-themed ride, and instead appears to fit in much more with the Victorian feel whilst still being quite modern. It shows the beautiful new Space Mountain: Mission 2 attraction logo and then features a woman describing the physical restrictions of the ride. Accompanying this are images of blueprints and diagrams of the Columbiad, plus footage from earlier Exploranaut missions. You can download the video (without sound) here, thanks to Coaster-Rider and Vivien on Disney Central Plaza Forums. |

| 26th March 2005 First Exploranaut Feedback! Grandmath from Disney Central Plaza forums was lucky enough to get a place on a test mission of Mission 2 today, and whilst he doesn’t want to spoil the surprises of the ride too much, he does say that the projections and effects in the ride are very well done, with lots of beautiful new stars in the mountain itself. He also says the launch is superb and it even feels like you are going much faster when infact you aren’t. Grandmath also says the end of the ride is superb and a definite good change! Overall, he says it’s less of a refurb like changing “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Peril” into a backwards ride and more of an actual completely new ride. He also drops in at the end his report that there is indeed a new safety video for the queue line! But no details about which are given yet… Read his full report here. |

| 26th March 2005 Envie de + de Dtails? The latest issue of the Annual Passport magazine, “Envie de +”, has just been released and it features a large amount of pages dedicated to the opening of Space Mountain: Mission 2. Along with a page of general information about the attraction, it features a page of special meal options for the park, a page of merchandise for the attraction and, best of all, a short interview with one of the creators. Check out scans of the magazine here and watch this page for a downloadable version of the magazine which should be available in a few days (or weeks!). |

| 22nd March 2005 First Merchandise In The Shops! Last weekend also saw the arrival of the first piece of Space Mountain: Mission 2 merchandise – a baseball cap featuring a version of the “publicity logo” (the more modern logo which is being used on all advertising and publicity for the attraction). It appears that this logo will be used on all merchandise for the attraction instead of the actual “attraction logo” (the logo seen at the entrance of the attraction), as confirmed by earlier preview images of Mission 2 merchandise on DLRP Magazine which featured both this baseball cap and a t-shirt. |

| 22nd March 2005 Entrance Sign Completed Over the last few days the entrance sign for Mission 2 has been completed with the fitting of the lighting inside the letters and the outer casing being put in place for the “Space Mountain” text on the sign. The weekend also brought the first testing of the sign, when it could be seen fully lit up over the blue construction fences. The outer casing of the text on the sign appears to be made from plastic, which unfortunately gives a rather washed-out and faded appearance to the “Mission 2” section when lit by white light from behind, but nevertheless the sign is still impressive and brings fresh colours to Discoveryland whilst still staying firmly in-theme with the decorative metal elements around the text. Thanks to Photos Magiques, here’s an in depth look at the signs and poster, some of the only changes to the attraction we’ve been able to see: |
This time, the Columbiad is aiming way beyond the moon… |
|
The FASTPASS archway sign. Note the nice detailing of bolts around the letters and on the ornamental brown framing behind the letters… |
|
The main attraction sign. The detailing from the FASTPASS sign is even more visible here, aswell as the nice decorative brown frame over the Supernova graphic as seen in the excellent close-up. There is yet to have been a Hidden Mickey sighting in the brown framing behind the text… 😉 |
  |
The main attraction sign at night. Notice the light in the miniature cannon and also the unfortunate washed-out look the bright light behind the painted plastic gives… |
|
The attraction poster which is featured in the huge frame on the side of the mountain. Whilst the framing and logos look excellent, most fans agree that the main image of a Mission 2 rocket train flying through planets looks too much like concept art and not enough in keeping with the theme after the immensely high-quality original poster. This nice close up showing the Exploranauts on board the rocket train does nothing to help though, since it clearly shows the modern clothing of the Exploranauts in this supposedly Victorian-set land… |

| 21st March 2005 Systems Malfunctioning! Are you training up for Mission 2 on the official Space Mountain: Mission 2 website? Have you achieved a top score but no longer appear on the leaderboard? Stay calm! You are not alone! There does indeed appear to be a problem with the leaderboard at the present time, which means that even if you’ve got a top score shown in your profile you may not appear on the actual leaderboard. The reason for this is unknown, but let’s hope they sort it out soon – blast off is just over a week away! |

| 20th March 2005 Main Attraction Poster In Place Unfortunately for those who felt the design of the mini-poster seen a few days ago was rather unoriginal and uninspiring, the new main attraction poster was yesterday revealed to follow the exact same design. It is still a beautiful piece of artwork though, with the excellent Mission 2 logo and some nice ornate detail around the edges. Photo: Click Here (Source: Kyoto on DMI Forums) |
| Thanks to Peter for the news. |

| 17th March 2005 More Exterior Work & Attraction Mini-Poster Over the last few days work has been continuing at a sustained high speed, with the lighting elements now fixed in place inside the main attraction sign and the “SM” initials added to the back of the sign where “DM” had been for so long before. Works and adjustments to the cannon recoil mechanism are still ongoing, and the attraction poster frame has been cleaned up considerably. Most exciting at the moment, though, is that the first attraction poster has been spotted. This isn’t the huge poster that will be going in the main frame though, but rather a smaller attraction poster featured at the entrance to the queue. It remains to be seen whether the main poster will follow the same design or not… Photos: Click Here (Source: Scrooge on DMI Forums) |

| 15th March 2005 The Columbiad Recoils Once Again! If you’re quite new to Disneyland Resort Paris, you’ll be wondering what the fuss is about, but after years and years of inconsistent or non-existent operation, the recoil effect of the Columbiad cannon is back! TicTac on Ameworld forums managed to get a great video clip of a train being launched, and for many fans the sight of the new trains, smoke effects and recoil effects is an amazing sight. The speed of the trains also seems to have changed since Mission 1 aswell, since now when guests view a train being launched they see it at maximum speed all the way, as opposed to just starting to accelerate in the past. This is due to the new launching position in the base of the cannon, which was intended for use in the original ride but was removed after safety concerns with the speed of the trains at the top of the cannon. This issue has obviously been fixed though, and a new longer and slightly faster launch will definitely help to get a ride on Mission 2 off to a good start! | 14th March 2005 Beautiful Details… Look Even Better! More and more beautiful new Mission 2 touches are being noticed around the attraction every day, and today “amiral.benson” on DLRP Magazine Forums points out the very high-quality new finish on the lampposts around the attraction. Compared to how the lampposts used to look with their highly weathered, dirty and industrial look, the lampposts cleaned so far look vastly improved. They still most definitely fit with the look of the ride, but look much more polished and expensive than they did in the past, so much so that they could almost be mistaken for entirely new brass lamp fittings! Take look for yourself. |

13th March 2005 Discovery Mountain Disappearing? The “DM” symbols on the trains are long gone now, and the “DM” symbol on the back of entrance sign is gone aswell… what could be next? Well, perhaps it could be the “DM” symbols along the entrance bridge? Currently a scaffolding rig appears to have been put in place to allow access to the side of the bridge and, perhaps rather curiously, a boat can be seen hidden under the bridge itself… |

13th March 2005 Advertising Explosion! Just yesterday the French TV Spot was first seen, and now there are billboards across Paris featuring the attraction aswell as many travel agents in the Benelux, such as the one visited by Raptor1982 from Photos Magiques which gives an excellent look at some of the great new advertising going on… |

12th March 2005 Main Attraction Sign In Place! The main attraction sign has now been put in place, and features a similar design to the new Fastpass archway sign put in place a few days ago, except that this sign looks far more expensive and incredibly impressive, with a surprisingly decorative and ornate style. It also features a very daring use of red for the “Mission” and “2” backgrounds. It is also most definitely in keeping with the proper Victorian theme of the ride, with no hint of the logo used in the ride’s advertising anywhere! The sign doesn’t appear to be finished yet though, since there seems to be what look like wires hanging out the “Space Mountain” text, which should also be a pale yellow colour when finished, similar to the Fastpass sign. The wires hanging out the sign will probably be enclosed in the final outer casing and will help to light up the sign at night. |

11th March 2005 Mission 2 Anticipation Spreads! Space Mountain: Mission 2 is now currently being featured on both www.disneylandparis.com and www.disney.co.uk! On the official Disneyland Resort Paris website it fills the seasonal box on the main page where the Kids Carnival was, whilst on Disney UK’s website it’s the main featured item and takes up most of the main page! This should defaintely help to drum up some more interest in the ride – especially as the links all go to the excellent official Space Mountain: Mission 2 site! |

9th March 2005 Fastpass Archway In Place & Main Sign Gone! One of the first visible changes to the attraction other than the trains was also seen today for the first time – the new Fastpass archway is now in place! It appears to be a smaller and slighter flatter version of the main attraction sign seen the official concept art, and features a beautiful design that perhaps looks even better than the original! Underneath the “Mission” text is a very cool supernova illustration, and the “Space Mountain” text fits very well with the colour of the mountain itself. Just to the right of this sign, another change was spotted today, as the old “Space Mountain” main attraction sign has now been removed. The main part of the sign has been left in place though, and after another look at the concept art it appears that the new sign does very closely resemble the old sign, suggesting that the new sign might be nearly finished already! Also today, it appears that a new hanging roof has been added to shelter the entrance Cast Member from the Parisian weather, and the huge old “De La Terre la Lune” poster has finally been removed. The legend of the old version of the ride lives on though, as the “DM” (Discovery Mountain, the attractions original name until a few months before opening) symbols along the entrance bridge are still in place! |

9th March 2005 Test Missions Continue It’s just one month until the official blast off on the next mission, and there have been multiple sightings of test launches over the last few days, allowing us to get a better look at the newly reconfigured rocket trains. Gone are the rather cheap-looking UV paints and colours and in come sleek silvers and expensive-looking bronze touches! The trains also now feature the attraction-version of the Space Mountain: Mission 2 logo. This is the logo featured on the attraction’s concept art (the versions released on January 30th 2005), and it is clear to see now the line being drawn between the attraction’s actual design and its marketing. As we saw just a few days ago with the official website launch, the marketing will follow a strictly modern and contemporary feel, whilst, as seen in the concept art, the attraction itself will most definitely stick to its Victorian roots. More so than before in some cases, perhaps, with the “Victorian space station” in the boarding area and redesigned queue themeing, this could just infact beat the first attraction… so long as they replace the old queue instruction video with something more in keeping with the rest of the ride. 😉 Visit the PhotosMagiques.com Forums for photos of the test missions. |

7th March 2005 SpaceMountain2.com Ready For Launch! It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for… (until the actual ride opening, ofcourse) SpaceMountain2.com is open! And what a site! In the “Broadband” and “Very High Speed” versions there’s galaxies of cool things to discover, with videos, screensavers, wallpapers, mission info, mission photos and a great collection of games! It’s more than we could have ever expected and likely Disneyland Resort Paris’ best website to date and one of the best attraction websites ever (which is probably why many believe it was developed by an outside company!). Although there have been a few problems experiences with the site by certain users, it is completely normal for a site so complicated and intricately designed as this. The amount of effort and work that has been put in is a wonderful sign of how much effort Disneyland Resort Paris might be putting in with the actual ride, and this clearly shows that not only Mission 2 but all of the new attractions over the next four years will be more than just slightly well publicised! Get over to Mission HQ now… www.spacemountain2.com |

4th March 2005 First TV Spot Online Thanks to dlrpfans.be you can now download the first Space Mountain: Mission 2 TV Spot. The spot, which is 20seconds long and features a large amount of guest reaction footage from Mission: Space, seems to be trying to draw viewers in with its exciting but mysterious feel. The “AttrACTION Reloaded” slogan nor the attraction’s new website are featured in the advert, which perhaps suggests that this could just be one of two or more TV Spots, with later versions giving more information about the ride or even how to book, as is usually the case with Disneyland Resort Paris’ adverts. |

4th March 2005 Shareholders Preview Day: CONFIRMED The shareholder’s preview day has been confirmed as April 3rd 2005. Strangely, this clashes with the first day of Annual Passport previews aswell, so it’s likely to be busy, but definitely worth it to be one of the first to experience the second mission. If you wish to participate you MUST register online beforehand, and places will be given on a first come, first served basis. More information and reservation form here. |

1st March 2005 Shareholders Preview Day For all you shareholders out there – it is currently rumoured that the preview day for Shareholders Club members will be April 3rd 2005, between 3pm and 8pm. It also seems likely that each shareholder will be allowed one guest to accompany them for their Missions throughout the previews. Don’t book your trip just yet though – wait until the official letters/emails are sent out, just to make sure! |

1st March 2005 Mission 1.5? In the last few days, the boom of the Columbiad has been heard across Discoveryland once again, as Space Mountain: Mission 2 begins its first train tests! The novelty of these tests will soon run out though, since they will need to run them hundreds of times to make sure every single effect and every music cue works in perfect synchronisation. This first test gave guests the first real glimpse of one of the repainted silver trains though, and is perhaps a sign that the majority of the effects might now be installed. This doesn’t mean the attraction is close to being finished though, since installing the effects will likely be the easiest part of the job compared to the rigorous testing that will be taking place to adjust every minute detail to perfection before the grand opening on April 9th 2005 and press & VIP preview day on April 6th 2005. |
