Disney fans in the Benelux area of Europe were today treated to
the delights of the new Bambi Special Edition DVD, aswell as an
extra special surprise inside – some of the first advertising for
Space Mountain: Mission 2 outside of the resort!  This comes
in the form of a 4-sided insert, which features information on the
revamped attraction aswell as Disneyland Resort Paris itself and a
special competition to enter via

www.mission2.nl (which, at the present time, hasn’t opened
yet).  Thanks to

Blast
Off 3 Days Early!

Earlier this week rumours started to emerge that Disneyland Resort
Paris could move the official opening of Space Mountain: Mission 2
to an earlier date to avoid the attention of the press being
overrun by the wedding of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles
which is due to take place on April 8th 2005.  This news has
now been official confirmed and a new official opening date of 6th
April 2005 has been announced by the replacement of the “9” by a
“6” on the teaser posters which have now appeared along the
construction walls of the attraction.  It is likely hoped
that this new date will allow for more attention on the relaunch
of the attraction, and this also shows that the attraction
probably isn’t going to be in a rush to get finished if they
afford to open it three whole days early.  Unfortunately for
Disneyland Resort Paris though, this important date change means
they now need to change the dates on every element of the huge
publicity campaign that has already begun throughout the resort.
Since the difference is only three days though, it’s quite likely
that to make the change easier to handle some advertisements will
be left as they are, and the “official” opening date as advertised
outside the parks may stay as 9/04/2004, with the attraction still
actually opening on 6/04/2005 to create a good pre-opening buzz
and ensure more of the media’s attention.

High-Quality Official Concept Art Released!

The concept art we saw a few weeks ago is now available in a
higher quality version, taken direct from the art itself and not
from photos of the display at the Cast Member’s New Attractions
preview exhibition.  This new concept art presents a
different version of the attraction’s logo, where the name “Space
Mountain: Supernova!” is used instead of “Mission 2”.  It
remains to be seen whether “Mission 2” will stay the attraction’s
name long after the opening, but for now this new concept art
provides a better look at the new effects and an exciting glimpse
at exactly what they meant by a “Victorian space station”!

Space Mountain: Mission 2 Concept Art Revealed!

This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for – our first glimpse
at the concept art for Space Mountain: Mission 2!  Luckily,
thanks to “berty05” that moment is right now, and the concept art
reveals lots of nice surprises.  We get to the see the
awesome Supernova effect that appears to almost fill one quarter
of the side of the mountain, aswell as the incredible “chasing the
comet” sequence and more star fields and effects along the way.
Another nice surprise is that the logo already released for Space
Mountain: Mission 2 (such as the one above) appears to only be for
the attraction’s marketing campaign and publicity.  The
concept art features a new design of the logo which sticks very
closely to the original “De La Terre La
Lune” design.  This logo is used on each concept art aswell
as the new entrance sign, which incorporates several aspects of
the old design aswell as making the text brighter and more
exciting.

Exterior Work Has Begun on Space Mountain: Mission 2!

As soon as the last flight to the moon had landed safely back on
Earth, the team responsible for the change from “De La Terre La
Lune” to “Mission 2” got to work straight away.  The ropes of
the outside queuing lines were gone by 8pm and as the hours
progressed more and more work began to get this mammoth task
finished by April.  Thanks to

Joel we can now see the extent of the work, with the
entrance sign and various other items already removed and large
construction fences closing off the entire site.

Repainted Train For Mission 2 Revealed

This incredible image taken by “YAM12R” has been doing the rounds
on the internet a lot in the last few hours, and with good reason!
It is the first image of a newly repainted Space Mountain: Mission
2 train, which features a new silver and blue colour scheme with
gold and bronze detailing in certain areas.  This new colour
will help to freshen up the trains (which were unable to be
replaced due to their complexity) aswell as infact moving closer
to the original Jules Verne story, since in Verne’s novel the
projectile fired at the moon was a large silver bullet-shaped
capsule.

Au
Revoir “De La Terre La Lune”!

This is it!  If you wanted to visit the moon again… you’re
too late!  Today is the last day of missions to the moon and
so we bid the original storyline to our beloved attraction
“farewell!”.  For all the excitement, fear, and sense of
discovery you’ve provided us with we wish for ten times more in
Mission 2!  And now – to the edge of the universe, and
beyond!  After all, “What one can conceive, one can achieve”.

“Last
Chance” Event Brings First Mission 2 Publicity

The “Last Chance” event for Space Mountain: De La Terre La Lune
took place today, and although the event was commemorating the end
of almost 10 years of journeys from the earth to the moon, the
resort used this chance to preview some very nice banners which
will be used in the parks to advertise Space Mountain: Mission 2.
You can see images of these top-quality banners on the first of
the new

Mission Briefing: Publicity
pages.

Disneyland Resort Paris Announces “The Secrets Of Mission 2”

Today, Disneyland Resort Paris sent out a press release which
confirms many of the details of Space Mountain: Mission 2, whilst
also providing us with some very exciting new information!
Here’s a summary:
The Rocket Trains
The rocket trains WILL launch from the base of the cannon!
This increases the length of the launch by 40% and creates an
initial acceleration of 14m/s.
A brand new sound system will be fitted into all trains.
It will use the newer technology of Rock N Rollercoaster and means
there will now be five speakers in each section of each carriage –
two at head level, two at waist level and one down by your feet.
The Music
New speakers inside the attraction itself will provide extra
sounds for the various effects which you’ll encounter.
The new Space Mountain: Mission 2 ride score is being written by
Michael Giacchino.  This up-and-coming composer has past
works such as Pixar’s The Incredibles and high-quality TV show
Alias, aswell as numerous well-known and atmospheric video games.
Queue Line
The “Star Way” WILL be enclosed, with the walls featuring
photographs of the many phenomena present in the universe such as
quasars, nov, comets… to help prepare Exploranauts for their
mission!
Visual Effects
Once inside the attraction, plunged in a cosmic universe,
the passengers will be confronted by a series of cosmic phenomena
which will cause changes of direction and disorientation of the
rocket train.  Passengers brave enough will meet a
spectacular supernova – a cataclysmic explosion of a massive star
which can sometimes shine more brightly than a whole galaxy made
up of billion stars – and cross a kind of luminous “vortex” on
return to Earth.
Whereas Space Mountain: De La Terre La Lune was largely in the
dark, Space Mountain: Mission 2’s effects will be much more
visible and present throughout the ride.  Among the effects
to be added are projections of star fields which will give
visitors the immediate impression of being in space, new comet
projections and meteors, the explosion of a supernova and many
more new lighting effects to support the ride’s story..

Rumours
Soar As Last Day Of “De La Terre La Lune” Nears

Here’s a little rumour-roundup for you, as we enter the final week
of missions to the moon and look ahead to the future and even
further into the universe…
New rumours are suggesting that the rocket trains will not be
replaced and will simply be repainted silver.  It is also
likely that the sound system of the trains will also be upgraded
since when it was created Flash cards and the related hardware
were still in their infancy.
Those rumours of the rocket trains being launch from the base of
the cannon are becoming ever more certain.
A short summary of the new effects and their sequence has also
surfaced.  It seems we’ll first fly through some orange
meteors before heading through a remote galaxy and have a comet
chase the rocket!  Next the supernova will explode right in
front of us (where the Moon currently is) and then we’ll glide
back down to Earth through a spiral galaxy…
And finally…
The “Star Way” is looking ever more likely to be completely
enclosed so that the view into the mountain is lost.  It is
likely that in its place we’ll have some kind of exhibition-style
corridor with images of space related objects.

The
Moon Shines Brighter Than Ever Before!

It has been confirmed by a number of fans that the projection
effect of the Moon has been altered already.  Now, instead of
the moon being projected onto the domed ceiling of Space Mountain
itself, the Moon is being projected onto a new screen incorporated
into the wall/ceiling.  This new screen has brought an
amazing amount of life back into the moon in it’s final days
inside the attraction, as with the new screen it can now be seen
razor sharp as you climb the lift hill in this section of the
ride.  It is likely that the screen was put in place now as a
small hint to what we can expect with Mission 2 in terms of the
projection quality, but whatever the reason it truly is fantastic
to see the Moon shining so brightly in its final few days.

AttrACTION Reloaded!

At the EuroDisney SCA shareholder’s General Assembly on Friday a
video preview of Space Mountain Mission 2 was shown for the very
first time!  The preview is entirely computer generated and
begins by flying through vast canyons on a planet similar to Mars,
interspersed with short clips focusing in on the cannon.  The
text throughout the first section reads: “Once in a generation …
An adventure calls … And for those who answer … This world
will never be enough”.  Next we are shot through the
Columbiad cannon itself (on the side of a REAL (albeit CGI)
mountain, no less!) and taken through a quick preview of the ride
itself. We fly past asteroids and a meteor before meeting the
incredible SuperNova which explodes before our eyes, bringing the
Space Mountain Mission 2 logo with it, which flies past us.
The final scenes show us the “AttrACTION reloaded” slogan and date
“04.2005”, along with a cool Disneyland Resort Paris logo and
finally the website address.  We won’t post the link to
download the video here to preserve copyrights and incase the file
goes offline, but surf to any good forum and you’ll find it right
away!

Guiding the way for the next mission…

A new lighting effect has just been installed on top of Space
Mountain.  Now, a strong yellow light shines up into the sky
under the “launch track” which juts out of the top of the roof.
The light must be guiding the way for the Exploranauts as they
wind down the rockets they send out on their original mission and
get ready to plan to course for Mission 2!

More
Mission 2 Secrets Revealed!

Thanks to a new writer on

JimHillMedia.com, there’s a few more “facts” now available for
Space Mountain: Mission 2.  The article mentions that not
only will the Star Way be enclosed and have factual boards on the
walls related to the stars and space, but there will be a replica
Space Station in the station!  But not just any space station
– a Victorian space station!  The article also goes
through the different sections which might be present in the ride
such as “Chasing the Comet”, “The gauntlet” and more.  Read
the full article

Base
Colour Chosen

Mission 2 is here!  The new base colours for the Space
Mountain show-building were chosen this week, and they are only
very slightly different to their predecessor.  See the photos
for more.

Patchwork Pick n Mix

Joel’s latest Photo Hunt report brings us lots of images of the
colours currently being tested
for
the concrete lower section of the Space Mountain show-building.
The colours range from grey to lilac, from sand to brown and
present a very large choice for an important part of the building.
Your wouldn’t believe it, but from this large selection of colours
they have to
choose
just one to paint the base with and there’s only very very minor
differences between some!  The exact colour to be used should
be chosen soon, and we see the full results not long after.

Thanks to

Joel for the news and photos.

Even more new paint…

Current rumours are suggesting that a new phase of exterior
refurbishment will begin soon on the rocks which surround the
Space Mountain show-building.  These jut up out of ground at
various points to help the huge structure fit into the surrounding
area better and are currently a grey colour.  When repainted,
they will most likely be the same shade of grey or one of three
shades of brown.

Thanks to Steven from

DLP Reisgids for the news.

A

Supernova of Graphics!

A huge amount of new Space Mountain: Mission 2 information and
graphics were released today on the Disneyland Resort Paris travel
agent’s website Extraordinet.  These include different logo
versions, graphics and icons, backgrounds and creative text (which
can be found in the
Press
Releases
section.  It looks like the lid is finally
starting to be lifted on the mysteries of Mission 2!

Second Mission 2 Logo Revealed

Another new logo has been released today, and it appears to be a
slightly different variation on the logo revealed a couple of days
ago.  This logo also features a large planet at the top
(Earth?), aswell as showing the logo almost like a compass. Behind
the logo text you can see an exploding supernova, which seems to
confirm the supernova story element of the ride.

Space Mountain: Mission 2 Logo Revealed!

Finally! The Space Mountain: Mission 2 logo is here!  It’s
out with the old Jules Verne style and in with a visually pleasing
far more modern effort which is sure to go down a treat in
marketing the ride.  It’s also interesting to see that the
ride is being named “Mission 2” and not “Mission II” as was
originally thought.
