Welcome to a season where children rule, and the child within us
all comes out to play! This is the colourful, whimsical Kids
Carnival season in Disneyland Park, with lively parades,
characters, music and decorations to get the whole family dancing
and swinging to the Carnival rhythm! | As you
enter the park, you’re greeted by a jazzily decorated Main Street
Station, overflowing with colour! The bright and cheery
banners featuring Mickey’s silhouette help bring Carnival Square
to life in a burst of colour and creativity. Streamers blow
in the breeze and the music gets everyone dancing – even some of
the oldest Disney characters! Throughout the day, the brightly decorated
Carnival Square welcomes characters a-plenty and Disney’s best party music to create a welcoming, happy
atmosphere where classic Disney characters come out to party and
get everyone involved. There’s Tigger! And Chip n
Dale! Even Gepetto is joining in the fun and games!
The characters are everywhere, dancing to the Carnival rhythms and
making dreams come true. | | All
around the centre of Carnival Square, you’ll find wild and wacky
Carnival creations, from the giant blue bubble tree to the strange
sea creatures and mysterious jungle plant life. Mixing
industrial items with whimsical, colourful, natural scenes, these
creations come to life all day long, with movement, bubbles, wind
and smoke effects! | At
selected times during your day of carnival fever, the characters,
sights and sounds of the Kids Carnival mini-parades burst onto the
square to create a riot of sights and sounds for everyone to
enjoy. Throw your hands in the air and let down your hair,
as you get taken up in the carnival spirit and never look back! | | |  |
There are two exclusive mini-parades every day, featuring
characters from Under the Sea and the Jungle, which then join
together to create a riot of sights and sounds in the grand
Carnival Finale! Throughout the day, the two carnival
presenters, “Carni” and “Val” bring a number of Dance Party
session to Carnival Square, which are
regularly frequented by large gatherings of dancing Disney
characters! For kids, there’s even free face
painting! |

the premiere of the brand new Kids Carnival season in 2005, one of
the main concerns of the resort fans was, of course – what music
will they use? As it happened, the answer came sooner than
expected, as a French preview website for the season featured a
short, edited clip of the lively Latin carnival-style music and
the notice: “La-Di-Da Carnaval – � Walt Disney Music Publishing
2005”, immediately giving the name of the theme song and
signalling that the brand new Kids Carnival music would be
released on CD! | Days
passed, and everyone waited eagerly for the 5th February – the
official first day of the new season. In fact, the
anticipation was cut short once again, as a
brand new CD Single
suddenly appeared on the shelves of Disneyland Park’s boutiques on
the 28th January 2005! The song was immediately spotted to
be the latest in a series of songs from the resort by popular
creative duo Jay Smith and Vasile Sirli. In the past they
had had great success with “All
Around The World“, “Chante, C’est No�l“ and their
greatest hit “Dancin’ (A Catchy Rhythm)“. Could they
possibly create another big hit so soon? |
Despite facing criticism from some for the quality of its lyrics
and rather exaggerated carnival style, “La-Di-Da
Carnaval“ was generally a great success, proving hugely
popular when played live during the Kids Carnival entertainment
and selling strongly on CD, even throughout 2005, long after the
season itself had finished. It’s simplistic, catchy lyrics
and irrepressible beat and rhythm seem to be the key draws of “La-Di-Da
Carnaval“, with the appearance in the extended version
(CD
Track 2) of what seems to be Sebastian from The Little
Mermaid adding an extra layer not seen before in a Disneyland
Resort Paris song. | Other
music used during the season includes lots of contemporary Disney
dance remixes, played by the live Dance Party DJ in Carnival
Square, as well as remixes of classic songs from The Little
Mermaid and The Jungle Book for each of the themed mini-parades. | | |  | The
Kids Carnival certainly isn’t the first time Disneyland Park has
seen the party atmosphere of a Disney carnival. In fact,
there had already been three major carnival seasons in the park
before the start of the first Kids Carnival season on 5th February
2005! | The
first major carnival, and the event most fondly remembered by many
long-time resort guests, was the 1997 Hunchback of Notre Dame
Festival of Fools carnival, otherwise known as the park’s 5th
Anniversary Celebration. This brightly coloured season not
only lasted much longer than other carnival seasons, but had some
pretty impressive features and entertainment too! A
good-sized daily parade featured the characters from the 1996
movie on rustic carts and well-themed floats, with one
particularly beautiful float featuring a recreation of one of
Notre Dame’s huge stained glass windows as its centrepiece.
The parade also featured a unique Notre Dame costume, a gypsy
dancing tent for Esmeralda and a huge gathering of Festival of
Fools entertainers. The Festival of Fools theme was
topped off with one of the most surprising seasonal decorations
ever – the transformation of Le Ch�teau de la Belle au Bois
Dormant into a collection of giant jester hats, providing a
focal point for this massive celebration which took over 200
people to make possible! | | 2003
saw the carnival return as a new annual season at the resort,
taking the theme of “The Jungle Book” and presenting
jungle-themed decorations on Main Street aswell as character
appearances, jazz bands and jungle dance shows in a
specially-created sheltered, wooden stage on Central Plaza.
Although the choice of theme, with a lean towards the familiar
jazz music of the film, sat nicely alongside the
“turn-of-the-century” theme of Main Street, the season’s lack of
major decorative elements or memorable entertainment meant it was
not as successful as was hoped. | In
2004, however, the carnival was extended even further and given a
new theme for the year – The Lion King. With the
celebrations concentrated around the attractive patchwork-style
Pride Rock Stage on Central Plaza, this carnival season had fewer
general decorations but won over the crowds with its vibrant and
engaging live entertainment. During the amazing “Circle
of Life Ceremony”, a parade of African dancers made their way
around Central Plaza from the Adventureland Bazaar, before they
reached the Pride Rock Stage, where a surprise, real lion cub was
presented to the crowds by Rafiki! In anticipation of the
June 2004 premiere of
The Legend Of The Lion King, the Lion King Carnival
started an unofficial “Year of The Lion King” in Disneyland
Park with a bang – literally! For the first time ever, there
was a special nightly fireworks show in February and early March:
“Simba’s FiROARworks”. |
Despite this series of very different and individual carnivals,
the Kids Carnival seems to be here to stay. Through the
blending of lively music, crowds of popular characters and some
hugely inventive and imaginative costumes and decorations, the
Kids Carnival has created a unique visual style for itself which
should continue to grow in popularity with each season. | With
some exciting new features introduced in 2006, such
as the Vultures from The Jungle Book and a special, mini, royal
coach for The Little Mermaid‘s Ariel, it seems that there is no end to imagination and
creativity, when you think like a child! | | |
